Motif Scavenger Hunt from Orpheus demo
Several people requested this slide, so enjoy....
Thanks for the honor of being in front of your beautiful sound this morning.
Miriam
A Motif iPod Scavenger Hunt
Listen to at least 4 songs that you really like and listen to frequently. Hunt for motifs while you listen. Make a detailed chart that includes:
song title & artist
when the motif first appears
what it sounds like
why you think it deserves to be called a motif
After you complete your chart, write down some thoughts to the questions below. They don’t have to be essays; just show that you’ve done some preparatory thinking for our discussions next class.
1.How long is a motif? When is a musical idea too long to classify as one?
2.Can a drum beat pattern be a motif?
3.Do you think knowing about motifs will change how you listen to these songs in the future? How?
4.How do you think knowing about motifs will change how you listen to a new song?
Thanks for the honor of being in front of your beautiful sound this morning.
